Tips on how to differentiate your travel blog

Freedom Wall, before it posted lifestyle contents, is focused primarily on travel guides. Our travel guide series follows a specific format. It starts with an introduction and short details about the trip. And since every experience is unique, these narratives may be uninteresting to some, but might be important to the most discerning readers, so we don’t leave them out.

Then it will be followed with a list of places of interests, how-to-get-there information, some helpful tips, and even expense estimates.

Travel Blog tips: Hidden Meanings

But apart from those details, I also leave some subtle criticism. Criticisms and nitpicking comments that I leave in the blog in a sort of positive or pragmatic messaging.

For example, aside from stating: “Kabati ba ani, lisud kayo pangitaon kung asa.” [This place is too hard to reach], I write:

Reaching Momo Beach may be a bit of a frowner to some. It seats at one end of an unpaved dirt alley that cut through a highly vegetated locality. Real travelers will not find it a downside though. It is like traversing a jungle just to see the hidden beach next to it. The promised isolation and privacy is truly waiting at the end of that journey.

Moreover, instead of saying: “Wala man lang effort ang pag design sa ilang reception” [The reception design is too bare], I write:

There’s nothing flashy in the receiving area. In place of chandelier is a hand-crafted spherical rattan which mesh added an atypical element to the lighting inside it. Two black solo couches seemed out of place with regards to color coordination, but give a comforting acceptance to the waiting guests.

The reception desk is plainly simple, no adornments, but contains helpful information for guests. I like the way they match simplicity with the natural design of their hospitable abode.

Details that matter

There are details that I think you guys should not forget to mention. These are the details that make the destination a stand out. For my case, I pay attention to the environmental impact and sustainability of the program or design.

For example:

The materials used for the interior design are of top-notch quality. Furnishings are carefully crafted and delicately arranged to maintain the simple yet elegant look of each suite. I like the way how they channel the natural light to reduce the need for electricity for illumination.

Relaxing in each room is disturbance free, and that is guaranteed.

Adding a personal touch

I also share some very personal information in some of my articles. This type of information is not for everyone, but to make the contents more mysterious and engaging, giving it a personal touch is one baby step.

While shuttling between my desktop and report printouts, I noticed my phone flickered from my peripheral sight. My mom texted that my sister gave birth to a baby girl.

I did not consider it a good news—not a bad news either. I was confused. I was depressed. I was a bit upset.

I was aware that my sister stopped from schooling when she learned she was pregnant. However, my being was still very resistant on accepting that fact.

Memories rushed back. A marquee of childhood photographs and vintage animations rolled like phantasms. I remembered how the innocent and seemingly timid young girl transformed into a fine and intelligent lass.

Identify a travel advocacy and always uphold it

There are plenty bloggers with comprehensive travel guides, stunning travel photos, remarkable narratives, and other interesting gimmicks. So how else could you make a difference? The answer lies on the advocacy you choose and how consistently and seriously you uphold it. You can start with following the dos and don’ts and supporting the preservation efforts of the local community. These simple gestures bring fort huge impact. You will not only protect the places that you visited, but you also make them available to the future generation of travelers and bloggers.

We at Freedom Wall discourages the use of animals as public transport. So wherever we may be, we don’t recommend riding any animals or animal-driven carts or rickshaws.
