Cagbalete: The Unveiling of the Ebbing Tide

The water started to recede when the sun was up (it did not show up though because of the thunderstorm) and the small island from afar slowly revealed. Then I saw people walking towards it with the water level at knee deep. Ted, Janina, Aaron and myself followed. The island was inhabited with two groups of dwarf mangroves, small fishes, and some fishers.

We dawdled there for a while and took groupies and the signature jump shot. We wondered how the other ladies were doing.

When the tide was at its lowest, a scenery of charm unveiled and a beach so vast appeared. Too bad, it was already time to pack up so we hadn’t made the most of it. The island was then literally “walkable”.

Uhmmm, the island in the background is “walkable” during low tide.

By popular demand, we re-utilized Kuya George and his buddy’s service. The ladies refused to walk so I had no other choice but to pay for the island’s only mode of transport. As I mentioned earlier, I don’t advocate the use of animals as transport, so for the second time around, I refused the ride.

I pity the carabao with such load, and so, I skipped this ride.

On the port side, a return boat to Mauban was waiting. We needed to hop to a smaller boat to get to the main carrier. When we were all on board, the boat got stuck in the shallow sea. If you ask how we circumvent the hurdle, that was all because of mighty Cess, who got off to give us a push.

The return ride was shorter. We reached the town of Mauban past 1PM, boarded a van to Lucena, and looked for a place to buy Rodillas (yema cake), the province’s delicacy. Queennie insisted to buy one before going home, thus there came another waiting game. We just couldn’t afford to leave her so we all agreed to wait.

We then went home full of funny memories.

  • Why is that so? There are no other means of transpo going to the resort? Was it also too far from the resort to the port? I feel pity to the carabao too. Don’t worry walking is a good exercise!
