Where to Stay in Dumaguete

Dumaguete is colloquially known as the city of gentle people and is rightly so. It is the image the locals built for years and has been continuously sown even in the present. Dr. Jose Rizal, Philippines’ National Hero, couldn’t be wrong during his first visit in the city. The city is also known as a university town because, despite of its size, it houses four of the countries biggest universities and a number of colleges, institutes, and higher education learning centers. Rizal Boulevard, Dumaguete As Negros Oriental‘s capital, Dumaguete is the best place for you to taste the province’s delicacies ... Read more

Bonawon Fiesta: Feast of Saint Vincent Ferrer 2013 Fluvial Parade Photo Gallery

Barangay Bonawon celebrates its annual fiesta with fluvial parade. Luckily, I got a chance to take some of the scenes of this year’s festivities. Below are the photos I collected from the procession. One of the notable few to grace the event is Negros Oriental’s incumbent governor, Roel Degamo. Gov. Sites You Should not Forget to Visit in Negros Oriental

Negros Oriental’s beauty remained a secret to the rest of the country. While most of us flocked to the most popular yet hackneyed destinations, the province’s frontiers were less occupied. The locals are randomly coming back and forth to those remarkable sceneries, yet they remained unknown outside the province. Only just recently, through the efforts of the provincial government, when the province launched a tourism campaign with a tag, “Negros Oriental: fun starts here, naturally”. However, the launch was made only in the Dumaguete, which, I believe targeted only the local market. Negros Oriental Tourism Campaign Banner as shown in Robinsons Dumaguete ... Read more

Dumaguete: Where the City meets Tranquility

I was born and raised in Negros Oriental and I spent my first 16 years of existence in the province. I finished elementary and high school in a remote but populated village, just 70 kilometers (1 and a half hour ride) south of Dumaguete, Barangay Bonawon. In 16 years, I can count the instances that I visited the city. It was because I had motion sickness, a normal complain for a typical adolescent like me who seldom travel and just spend the most of his time at home and in school. But high school life demanded me to travel more ... Read more

palaran festival logoI finally came home, my 3rd time since I left to study in Manila. It wasn’t easy at first – of course, you will miss the locally cooked dish which I am used to, the unusual scenery, the bizarre corners of the village, the friendly and the unfriendly folks, etc. It was the best time to be home. The first week of April 2011 was the best schedule to pick in the year since it is when we celebrate the annual Feast of Saint Vincent Ferrer. Highlights of the week includes a local beauty pageant which started on ... Read more
