How to Get There

From Manila, you can take any bus to Baguio or Banaue, and then transfer to an onward transport.

Via Baguio

A lot of bus companies offer Manila-Baguio route. Victory Liner has hourly trips from their Pasay, Cubao, and Caloocan terminals. You can also take Genesis, Saulog Transit, and Dagupan Bus Co. Fare starts at ₱445.

From Baguio, you can take GL Trans or Lizardo Bus Line. The first trip leaves at 6:00AM, and then every hour after that until 11:00AM. The last and the only afternoon trip will depart at 1:00PM. There are no reservations, so make sure that you are at the terminal as early as possible to get a seat, especially during peak season. Travel time is 6 hours and the regular fare is ₱230.

Via Banaue

If you want to see the world famous Banaue Rice Terraces before going to Sagada, then the Banaue route is a good option.

There are two bus companies that travel to Banaue from Manila:

  • Ohayami Transit [Address: J. Fajardo St. cor Lacson Ave., Sampaloc, Manila | contact: +63 927 649 3055 / (02) 516 0501] leaves Manila at 10:00PM daily. Additional trips are mounted on peak seasons. It is advisable that you book your tickets in advance, which will cost you ₱450.
  • Dangwa Tranco Inc. [Address: Dimasalang Street (near Dangwa Flower Market), Sampaloc, Manila] also has trips to Banaue. Please visit their terminal or call (02) 781 5849 / (02) 743 3809 for more details.

From Banaue, You can take a van to Sagada for ₱300. The van leaves at 09:00AM near People’s Lodge and Restaurant. Note that this is not a regular schedule. Contact Marcial at +63 916 864 2988 to confirm if the trip is offered.

Another option is to catch a jeepney or bus from Banaue town proper to Bontoc (₱150). Then take another jeepney from Bontoc to Sagada (₱45).

Where to stay in Sagada

Davey’s Town Inn and Resto (+63 907 211 7478) is a humble homestay at the back of the new Municipal Hall. It is just few steps away from the tourism office. With ₱350/pax, you can enjoy your stay with free WiFi. The bathroom/comfort room, however, is shared. The restaurant is just downstairs for easy access in case you find it cold to move around the town.

Things to do in Sagada

Upon arrival in Sagada, proceed to the Tourism Office (inside the old Municipal Hall) to register and pay for the environmental fee (₱35/pax). The receipt is a requirement for you to register to the following tours.

Cave Connection

A spelunking activity that will start at Lumiang Burial Cave and ends at Sumaguing. This usually takes 4 hours of squeezing, lifting, rappelling, and climbing inside the two famous caverns of Sagada. Tour fee is ₱400/pax  (for 3pax and up) while the optional two-way transport costs ₱400/group.

Sumaguing Cave

The tour includes a visit to Lumiang Cave entrance and a tour within Sumaguing Cave. Guide Fee starts at ₱500 (4 visitors or less).

Balangagan Cave Spelunking

Also known as Marcos Cave, Balangagan features pure white flowstones and impressive rock formations. Guide Fee is ₱650 for 4 pax or less while the two-way jeepney ride cost ₱650 which can carry up to 20 individuals.

Kiltepan Sunrise

You can either hire a jeepney for ₱500 or jog to the view point to get a peek of the sunrise.

Bomod-ok Falls

Get a glimpse of a majestic falls by passing through awesome rice paddies and terraces. The back and forth trek will take 3 hours. Guide fee is ₱600/group of 10.

Mount Ampacao Traverse

This is a loop-hike from the town center to Lake Danum view point passing Mt Ampacao down to the village of either Demang or Ambasing. The 3-hour tour costs ₱800/group of 10.

Central Sagaga Eco Tour

Includes Echo Valley Hanging Coffins, Sagada Underground River, St. Mary’s Church, and Bokong Natural Swimming Pool. Guide fee is ₱600/group of 10.
