The eruption of Mt. Vulcan in 1871 destroyed most of the town of Catarman and even sunk some of its portions beneath the sea. One of those area was the cemetery. The marker was placed to commemorate both those who were already resting in peace and those who lost their lives during the tragedy.

This marker of the sad past had become a tourist attraction in Camiguin.
