Where to Eat in Butuan: Pina’s Barbecue

We arrived in Butuan late at night after our tour in the islands of Siargao and Bucas Grande. Though tired and sleepy, we still went out after checking-in to our accommodation to look for a place to eat. We did not mind what place it may be as long as we can sate our hunger the soonest. We found out that a Gaisano Mall is nearby so we boarded a trike to reach the place. Along the way, we passed this eatery with thick smoke on its side (kitchen area). We were curious but we continued to Gaisano and thought of ... Read more

A Stuffing Stop-over at Stuff Over Burger Cafe

Tired and hungry – that was everyone’s complain after our Saturday morning boot camp. We were all not used to that type of activity and it drained us a lot. So after the big pumps, twists, and stretches, we decided to went out to fuel up. Beside our building, Cyberscape Alpha, stands the AIC Gold Tower which are both accessible via the Sapphire and Garnet Roads. As of this writing, the Sapphire lobby of our office isn’t open yet, so went out via the Garnet exit and took a little maneuver to reach the Sapphire portion. The Stuff Over Burger Cafe ... An Accidental Korean Food Trip at Salang Restaurant

We were at night shift and we were tired of fast food. Though new to the place, since we just moved in to a new building along Sapphire Road, we ventured out an hour past midnight to check for better options. We considered exploring for midnight eats along Emerald Avenue but before we could make a turn, we noticed this flickering banner of Salang Restaurant at the mezzanine floor of AIC Gold Tower. We went upstairs and curiously checked. At first we thought it was closed. The restaurant was dimly illuminated and its door did not open on our first attempt. Laughter ... Read more

A Walk and the Seafood Munch in Baybay, Roxas City, Capiz

Roxas City in the Province of Capiz is nicknamed as the Seafood Capital of the Philippines. I never thought that I would change my plan on my last minute in Boracay. Instead of paying for another night of stay at Frendz Resort, I headed to Cagban Jetty Port and boarded a pumpboat to Caticlan. From Caticlan, I took an Iloilo-bound bus and paid a route to Sigma. From Sigma bus stop, I took another bus to Roxas City. Using a not-so-reliable mobile internet, I searched for interesting places in Roxas City and found Santa Monica Church, a 3-century old church in ... Read more

A Sweet Treat at Cafe by the Ruins

I heard rumors about this sweet cafe at the heart of Baguio City, which is highly suggested for breakfast; the Cafe by the Ruins. Their tsokolate (tablea or native chocolate and carabao’s milk blend), bread, and pastries receive exceptional ratings and favorable recommendations. Holding on all the stories and reviews I’d been reading days prior to travelling to Baguio, I visited the restaurant. I walked toward the cafe with the guidance of Google map. Then, I started to doubt my only companion when it stated that I’m pretty close, but no physical signs could confirm. What I saw is a ... Read more

It feels like Home in Jollibee Vietnam

After a tiring layover in Ho Chi Minh City, the last stop of our Indochina Tour, we visited Jollibee Vietnam. Roderick, with the help of his MapsWithMe app in Android, pointed the direction to shop which was relatively close to the War Remnants Museum. Back in the Philippines, we sometimes snub Jollibee or we only visit the store if its the only option left, but seeing it abroad gave us a strange feeling – unusual joy and pride. We hurried to go inside and we noticed that the atmosphere felt exactly like home, though the language was different. Jollibee Store ... Read more

Tatoy’s Manokan & Seafoods: Cooked Fresh

After checking-in at Ong Bun Pension House, where we spent our night before heading home, we boarded a jeepney at Valeria corner Ledesma Street to Tatoy’s Manokan and Seafood (sorry, I forgot the jeepney’s route). Upon hearing seafood, our ears rang really hard, making us in doubt. We’ve been eating the same seafood (scallops specifically) for two days straight  in Isla de Gigantes, so we wanted something different – something that isn’t shellfish. Since a friend, who happened to be a local, recommended the restaurant to us, we headed there without further questioning. The jeepney ride took nearly 45 minutes and it ... Read more

4R’s Foodhaus and Family KTV Bar Camiguin: Lutong Bahay Eat All You Can

After dipping around the waters of White Island and immersing in the cold splatters of Katibawasan Falls for half day, there was no other person who was hungrier than us in the island. So we asked our multi-cab driver/tour guide to bring us to place where we can fully indulge our food lust. He brought us to 4R’s Foodhaus and Family KTV Bar. For ₱125.00, we gobbled a banquet of Filipino home-made dishes (lutong-bahay). Yes, it was an all-you-can-eat experience. However, no matter how much we tried to taste everything in the buffet table, some dishes ran out so often. Unarguably, they do have a lot of ... Read more

Hapag Vicentico’s

June this year (2013), I was looking for a place that’ll spare me from the usual dousing on the feast of St. John the Baptist. Getting wet is fun but I wanted something that is different. So I googled for some other things to do and I stumbled to this kind of festival celebrated in a remote town of Nueva Ecija, the Taong Putik Festival. Learning this, I boarded a Five Star bus bound for Cabanatuan City the day before the actual event. I had to be in the town really early so I can witness how people do the ... Read more
